독일 정부는 2026년 4월 27일, 고위 정치인 2명을 포함한 장관급 인사, 군 관계자, 언론인 등을 대상으로 한 시그널 메신저 피싱 공격의 배후가 러시아일 가능성이 있다고 밝혔다. 공격자들은 'Signal Support' 계정을 사칭해 사용자에게 코드와 PIN을 입력하도록 유도했으며, 이를 통해 계정을 탈취하고 연락처와 메시지에 접근했다. 피해자로는 독일 연방정보국(BND) 전 부국장 아른트 프라이타크 폰 로링호펜과 영국계 미국인 크렘린 비판가 빌 브라우더 등이 포함된 것으로 알려졌다. 독일 연방 검찰은 2026년 2월 중순부터 이 공격에 대한 예비 수사를 진행 중이며, 간첩 혐의 적용 가능성도 검토하고 있다.
