영국의 부유한 지역과 빈곤 지역 간 건강 수명 격차가 최대 20년까지 벌어졌다는 통계가 발표되며 보건 불평등 문제가 심화되고 있다.
2026년 4월 영국 통계청(ONS)과 보건재단(Health Foundation)의 분석에 따르면, 영국의 가장 부유한 지역과 가장 가난한 지역 간의 건강 수명 격차가 심화된 것으로 나타났다. 부유한 지역 거주자는 빈곤 지역 거주자보다 약 20년 더 오래 건강한 상태를 유지하며 살 수 있는 것으로 분석되었으며, 특히 빈곤 지역 남성의 건강 수명은 50세 미만으로 떨어졌다. 전문가들은 이러한 현상의 원인으로 열악한 주거 환경, 비만, 경제적 박탈감 등을 지목하며 영국의 보건 수준이 후퇴하고 있다고 경고했다.
